Tied at the halfway point, Greater Sudbury bust out to double up on French River

The Greater Sudbury Cubs defeated the French River Rapids 6-3 at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex on Feb. 9.

On Thursday, the Cubs opened the scoring 72 seconds into the game thanks to Samuel Assinewai, who zipped around a French River defender, drove to the net and “neatly tucked the puck between the legs of Rapids’ starter Brady Dyer for his 13th goal of the season,” the team said in a news release. “The Rapids then drew level at 6:27 when Picard picked up a turnover at his own blueline then raced down the ice on a breakaway where he went top shelf over the glove of Beaulne to see him reach a baker’s dozen in the NOJHL goal department,” stated the news release.
