NOJHL squad hosting the Cochrane Crunch on Thursday
Two recent wins pushed the Greater Sudbury Cubs to 40 points on the season and saw them climb the Canadian Junior Hockey League ranks to ninth in the nation, their highest ranking to date.
This Thursday when they host the Cochrane Crunch, the Cubs are looking to increase their three-point lead over the Blind River Beavers in the very-tight West Division standings. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex. In other Cubs news, star forward and local player Pierson Sobush has been named one of the Eastlink Three Stars of the Week. “One of Pierson’s goals was a short-handed marker which tied the game against Elliot Lake and sent the game into overtime,” the team said in a news release. “The Cubs pulled out the win in a shoot-out thanks to Cubs goaltender Noah Beaulne who stopped all three shots that he faced and Cubs forward Oliver Smith, who scored the only goal in the shoot-out.
