A convicted criminal who was accidentally released from prison has been arrested while drinking a cocktail near Newcastle.
Randolph Convery, 49, was enjoying his ninth day out of custody by drinking a tequila sunrise at Shoal Bay Country Club yesterday afternoon when he was arrested by police.
9News understands Convery was released five months too early due to a clerical error on his paperwork and walked out of Newcastle Local Court last week.Randolph Convery, 49, was enjoying his ninth day out of custody by drinking a tequila sunrise at Shoal Bay Country Club yesterday afternoon when he was arrested by police.He was serving a 12-month minimum sentence for assault and was due for release in January 2024.
Convery has been charged with escaping custody but pleaded not guilty and will reappear in Newcastle Local Court in October.
