Brière said the union worked with the government to ensure that around 600 workers in the Atlantic whose contracts ended at the end of June received their bonuses. He said that left around 1,100 workers without signing bonuses, amounting to a total of about $2.75 million. “Each year, in preparation for tax-filing season and peak periods, the CRA hires temporary employees to work in its contact centres across the country,” CRA spokesperson Nina Ioussoupova said. “Many of these employees are hired on a fixed-term basis, meaning the beginning and the end of their employment is predetermined at the time they sign their letter of offer. These employment contracts expire at various times during the year.
