COVID-19 wave expected to peak ‘in week or so’, says chief health officer | Kaubo

NSW’s chief health officer says the peak of the COVID-19 wave is a week away, as the virus continues to spread at high levels through the community.

There were 35 COVID-related deaths, of which six had not received their three doses of vaccine, and four deaths were in people aged under 65. Over the past several months, the rates of furloughed workers and COVID-19 notification numbers have followed the same pattern, rising and falling in step with one another. However, in the last two weeks of November they have started to split off, with the number of furloughed workers rising more steeply than the number of positive notifications. This suggests there is underreporting of cases in the community likely due to the scrapping of mandatory testing in mid-October.

Dr Chant said older people at high risk of severe illness should talk to their GP about having a COVID plan.Chant also recommended people wear a mask in crowded public indoor places, stay home if symptomatic and avoid visiting high-risk settings including hospitals and disability and aged care facilities.
