PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry will make a decision soon on reintroducing compulsory use of face masks in schools in view of the current spread of Covid-19, says Fadhlina Sidek.
The Education Minister said discussions would be held to find the best solution to ensure the safety and health of students who will be starting school next week after the Health Ministry recommended the use of face masks.
"A special discussion was held this morning related to the Covid-19 spread and the Health Ministry's recommended the use of face masks as the best solution for the safety and health of our children starting school next week," she said on Thursday .It was reported that the Health Ministry had proposed the compulsory use of face masks in schools again to curb the surge in Covid-19 cases following the spread of the XBB.1.16 variant, otherwise known as Arcturus.
Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said a meeting would be held with Fadhlina to discuss the matter before schools reopen on May 2.
