A Supreme Court jury hears Rohen James Hanson falsely claimed his partner Dee Annear died in a car accident, but later told police he had assaulted her.
Rohen James Hanson has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Dee Annear, claiming he acted in self-defence the night she died.
"Mr Hanson tells police he assaulted Ms Annear after she hit him with a beer bottle," Mr Bouveng said.Crown prosecutor Carl Young also noted inconsistencies in Mr Hanson's accounts of what happened to Ms Annear during his opening statements on Wednesday. He told the jury a "key part of the trial" will be examination of evidence which will help determine what happened between the last time Ms Annear was seen — on Friday, September 17, 2021 — to when her body was found in front of the cabin the next morning.Mr Hanson appeared to cry as he and the jury watched CCTV footage of himself and Ms Annear at a supermarket at Comboyne — an hour from their campsite — on Friday, September 17, 2021.
