Federal court to be told Monsanto-produced weedkiller has caused non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which company denies

An Australian man who claims he developed cancer after regular exposure to a popular weedkiller through his childhood and working life is one of hundreds fighting to prove the link between the product and their disease in a Melbourne court.– the US chemical giant – began on Monday in the federal court. The case has been brought on by Maurice Blackburn. More than 800 Australians, diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, allege their cancer is linked to their use of the herbicide Roundup.

Andrew Clements, KC, acting for the complainants, told the court he would argue that glyphosate and Roundup were carcinogenic to humans and could cause non-Hodgkin lymphoma through a number of ways. Clements told the court that the case’s lead applicant, Kelvin McNickle, 40, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in May 2018, after using the herbicide to spray weeds over two decades for work and during his childhood. He underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy and went into remission the following year. But the court heart he was diagnosed with cancer again six weeks ago.
