Some experts say the strike in the central Iranian city of Isfahan, was a nudge to the Iranian regime to bring it back to accepting the need for a realistic nuclear deal that works for the West.
But the quick claim by U.S. officials that Israel was behind last weekend’s attack, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, is surprising, Parsi said.
“In the past, the U.S. government was worried that Israel would conduct attacks that could spark a war. Now, it seems like the United States is implicitly endorsing these attacks and that is a significant change,” said Parsi. “It is a continuation of a policy that’s been in motion for some time, on the part of Israel, that will take the war to Iran’s borders,” said Vatanka. “We’ve seen that in Syria, we’ve seen that even to some extent in Iraq, certainly northern Iraq, where we’ve seen the Israeli operations intensifying in that country, and the target is Iran.
