A 19-year-old mother who watched her first baby die believes her concerns were disregarded by Mackay hospital staff, an experience bearing a striking resemblance to a case revealed at the hospital's last damning investigation in 2022.
Two infant deaths after their birth at the Mackay Base Hospital in 2023 are being investigated by the coroner.
Two months earlier, Jenna McGregor's baby, Hugo, died five days after he was born at the same hospital.The causes of death for both babies were listed as hypoxic-eschaemic encephalopathy, a brain injury from a lack of oxygen or blood flow around the time of birth.Ms Stanley was 19 when baby Everlee died in Townsville University Hospital after being transferred from Mackay.
The shocking investigation found inadequate care at Mackay Base Hospital contributed to the deaths of three babies, including Nathan Beazley, and caused lifelong physical and mental harm to numerous women.The review handed down 122 recommendations that the Mackay Hospital and Health Service said had since been completed or were in progress.
Chloe Stanley said from 30 weeks of the pregnancy she felt like something was wrong but was "made to feel like s**t" and judged by Mackay hospital staff.Ms Stanley said she and her partner Ty Auguston presented to the emergency department several times reporting her baby was not moving. "We also gave an undertaking to meet with Ms Stanley and her partner once the review process has been completed," Dr Pain said.
