WA's Deputy State Coroner says Robert Weber played a part in his 25-year-old wife Peta's death, and fabricated a story about her going missing near Albany coastal spot The Gap in 1997.

"It's so easy to commit the perfect crime" were the words Richard Weber reportedly told his new partner in the years after his wife Peta Simone Weber disappeared in June 1997.WA's deputy state coroner says Ms Weber met foul play likely at the hands of her husbandYesterday, Western Australia's Deputy State Coroner Sarah Linton said Mr Weber played a part in his 25-year-old wife's death and fabricated a story about her going missing near Albany coastal spot The Gap.

"There is no evidence, other than Richard's word, to support the conclusion Peta was even at The Gap that morning," Ms Linton said. Ms Linton said while Mr Weber was involved she could not rule out an accidental death and that he concealed it. "Accordingly, the cause of Peta's death must remain unascertained and I make an open finding as to the manner."Ms Linton said she was satisfied Ms Weber died around the time of her disappearance and as she was a "loving mother" she would have contacted her daughter and son if she was alive.

She said "there was also considerable evidence to indicate Richard was a controlling and jealous husband who was likely to have reacted badly to Peta's plans to leave him".Mr Weber started a relationship with another woman in the months following Ms Weber's disappearance.
