In 1964, they organized a parade one Saturday in February, which concluded at city hall. It was led by Dr. Bob McLeod, who developed the idea and was the first person to dress as the carnival mascot Leif the Lucky. Buckle has remained heavily involved in carnival through the years. She has since served in a variety of capacities as a carnival committee member, board member and as the board chair. Each year, the carnival kickstarts with much ceremonial pomp and circumstance as Leif the Lucky emerges from his hut of ice and snow.
