Police Col. Kim Legada, Iloilo City Police Office chief, urged the people here to celebrate the New Year safely.“We urge everyone to celebrate the New Year safely and responsibly by refraining from using illegal items like boga,” said Legada.
Legada urged ICPO units to step up monitoring of illegal firecrackers, particularly boga, which are prohibited under Republic Act No. 7183 or the An act regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices. Police Station 8 confiscated 13 boga, Police Station 5, six; Police Stations 2 and 5, five each; Police Station 3, three; and Police Stations 1 and 6, one each.
Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, chief of the ICPO Public Information Office, said additional patrols were deployed to barangays to apprehend people using boga. “We are coordinating with village chiefs and established checkpoints in strategic areas across the city to monitor and apprehend violators,” Sangrines said.
