- According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru , copper production in Peru, the world’s second largest copper producing country, amounted to 229,990 tonnes in September 2022, up 13.5% compared to September 2021 . MINEM said that this positive performance was mainly due to higher production by major local copper mining companies, including Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. , Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. , Minera Chinalco Perú S.A. and Marcobre S.A.C. .
At the company level, Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. is first with a 20.6% share in total Peru’s copper output, followed by Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. and Southern Peru Copper Corporation .
