Convicted arsonist Philip John Strange to remain behind bars while he looks for a lawyer to represent him on new arson charges.
Nanji also noted Strange now faces additional charges, leading the prosecutor to give notice he will be applying to revoke the offender’s bail on the Siksika charge.
He faces a third charge of committing mischief to the property of Lauro Estrellado. All three offences are alleged to have been committed in Calgary last Wednesday.Article content After Justice Brandy Shaw granted the application to have Wyman withdraw from the case, she had Strange consult with Didsbury duty counsel Brittany Ashmore.
Ashmore told Shaw that Strange wished to adjourn his case for a week in order to apply to Legal Aid for a lawyer, meaning the convicted arsonist will have to spend another seven days behind bars at the Calgary Remand Centre.The Calgary man said he had gone to the area after a friend had called to pick him up after rafting on the Bow River.
Strange said he got lost and went to the wrong place, eventually running out of gas and losing power to his phone before setting at least two blazes around 7:20 a.m. on Canada Day.Nanji is seeking a six-month jail term followed by probation on that charge.
