TWO construction workers were shot in Barangay Canjusa, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, following a confrontation involving Police Corporal Armin Alanza, 36, who is assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Western Visayas (RMFB 6). One victim, identified as alias Joman, 21, succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the Valladolid District Hospital by the attending physician, while alias Jomarie, 52, has remained under medical care.

The altercation reportedly started when the suspect, who resides in Barangay Canjusa, cautioned the two victims, who had bought beers at a nearby store. A heated confrontation followed, leading to the shooting. Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6) Director Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky ordered a swift, in-depth, and impartial probe into the shooting incident. “Order was already given to the Provincial Director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and to the Force Commander of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6,” Wanky said. He confirmed that administrative and criminal proceedings would be handled without delay.Wanky extended sympathy to the victims’ families and gave assurance that immediate assistance will be provided. “We extend our deepest sympathy to the family members of the victims of this unfortunate incident caused by one of our members. PRO-6 will ensure that appropriate support will be extended to them. A speedy Pre-charge Investigation will likewise be conducted against the suspect for his immediate dismissal from the PNP service,” Wanky said.Wanky also underscored that the Philippine National Police (PNP) does not tolerate misconduct. “While we may be quick to reward those who perform extraordinary deeds in pursuit of their duties and responsibilities, we are also quick to get rid and dismiss those who violate our rules and regulation much more be involved in criminal activities,” he sai
