A 25-year-old construction worker was arrested in Cebu City after allegedly assaulting a 21-year-old college student on Christmas morning. Kerwin Tado Salas, a neighbor of the victim, was taken into custody following a complaint filed at the Inayawan Police Station. Lt. Christian Darcy Fat, head of the police station, said that Salas was celebrating Christmas with friends, and the victim and Salas' live-in partner were also present.
After the celebration, the victim returned home to rest, but Salas allegedly followed her into her room and attacked her. The victim initially mistook him for her partner but later recognized the attacker. She fought back, pushing him away, and screamed for help, prompting her partner to intervene. Salas fled the scene but was apprehended by residents and turned over to the police. Salas admitted to the assault but claimed he was intoxicated and unaware of his actions. Despite an emotional plea from Salas' live-in partner asking the victim to drop the charges, the victim is determined to proceed with the case. The victim will undergo medical examination and counseling in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Services
