Jewellery and optical designer Şener Besim has teamed with Fitzroy’s Oigall Projects to create a boutique of edgy elegance.
Sometimes, it’s not opposites that attract. A collaboration between Melbourne jewellery designer Şener Besim and design gallery Oigall Projects is an aligning of minds. The first expresses his Ottoman heritage though jewellery, eyewear and women’s wear that is boldly graphic, distinctly architectural. He launched his eponymous brand in Paris in 2016, and opened a tiny flagship store in the Melbourne CBD in 2020.
Besen refers to Oigall as “a conceptual testing ground for design”. “Andy and Mitch have really shaken up the design scene in Melbourne and I respect them enormously,” he says. Tailored clothing and sculptural furniture add up to “considered living”, says Oigall Projects’ Andy Kelly. The “here” is a new 160 square-metre Şener Besim store on a prime corner site in Melbourne’s Armadale into which the Oigall boys have inserted a composition of brushed aluminium panels that punctuate the space, leading the eye around the offering which includes Besim’s new Spear collection of jewellery.
