Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has backed in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics amid chaotic preparations for the event centred around the location of games venues.

The Queensland Labor government this week moved in a"new direction" for the sporting spectacle after stinging criticism of costly plans to rebuild the Gabba.

The Prime Minister added the Brisbane games eight years away will be a"cracker" which will not only benefit the city and Queensland but the rest of the country. "You know what, it was a ripper of a time. I have friends who left Sydney during those games and rented their places out and who regret it because it was such a fantastic time to be in Sydney.

The government accepted 90 per cent of the recommendations but stopped short of supporting the push for a new multi-billion dollar stadium at Victoria Park. Suncorp Stadium has been proposed as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, while QSAC is mooted to play host to track and field events.
