Up until July, Stewart was getting $686 on social assistance. Then he was evicted from his Windmill Road apartment in Dartmouth after it was condemned. That meant he lost the government shelter allowance and his cheque was almost cut in half. The Chronicle Herald asked how the department is reaching everyone, but its response was unclear. Stewart had yet to get details from his caseworker.
