On the brink of living out the dream he first chased as a 12-year-old, Cody Simpson has shared one last reflection on the final days of his four-year battle to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics . The popstar athlete is locked in for three events at this week’s Australian swimming trials — 50m and 100m freestyle, and 100m butterfly. He will need to reach a final and secure a top result to book his place but a strong performance would also put him in the mix to be selected for relays.
” Simpson grew up hoping to follow in his parents’ footsteps — mum Angie represented Australia at the 1987 Pan Pacific Games, while dad Brad did so at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. Music took hold when he was 13, and a decade on he changed gears before it was too late. “I’ve laid it all out there in these final six months and I’m very, very excited to race this week and just see what I can do,” Simpson, now 27, said. “Thanks to all who have supported me on my ride.
