The Australian Institute of Sport will roll out new guidelines for elite sports on transgender athletes, following Basketball Australia’s decision toA BA panel this week ruled that Rodgers, a transgender woman, could not play for the Kilsyth Cobras in the semi-professional WNBL1 South basketball league, although she can reapply later.

However, these will be guidelines rather than rules, and the sports will be free to make their own decisions. “We’re engaged with Basketball [Australia] in understanding the process that they’ve undertaken ... and we’ll utilise that information to continue [to] help us expand the guidelines and make sure we’re giving sport all support we can,” Perkins said.
