All units of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) were placed on heightened alert Monday to intensify watches on national ports and ferry terminals during the Christmas season.

Coast Guard commandant Admiral Joel Garcia announced that the heightened alert status under the “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2019” aims to beef up safety and security measures for the riding public until Jan. 5, 2020.

Various water assets of the Coast Guard, the commandant said, are strategically deployed in major ports across the country. Small craft including two 12-meter high speed boats, 10 seven-meter rigid hull inflatable boats, and several aluminum and rubber boats were also deployed to make sure that critical ports, especially in the western and eastern seaboards of the country, are closely monitored for any untoward maritime security incident, Garcia said.
