For six months, the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury surveyed taxpayers on their priorities for the new council
With the new city council taking the reins at Tom Davies Square, the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury has unveiled the results of six months of surveying taxpayers as to what they think the city needs most.
“What is most needed in our community? It’s an especially pertinent question as a new mayor and council begin their term,” the Coalition said in a news release. “From April to October 2022, Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury posed that question to community members throughout Greater Sudbury.”“As a grassroots organization, we are listening to community members to help guide our work, and bringing these voices forward to inform city council,” said Coaltion Chair Naomi Grant in a news release.
The comments were filtered from 466 individual submissions received online and in-person from 11 Greater Sudbury neighbourhoods. Three “diverse community conversations” also contributed, the Coalition said. The community priorities that emerged helped direct candidate pledges put forward by community organizations during the municipal election.
“Community members were highly engaged on these priority issues during the election,” the Coalition said. “For example, over 1,100 people viewed the mayoral town hall on environmental and social issues, and over 7,400 people viewed one Facebook post sharing candidate responses to the community pledges.”
