The Coalition MP welcomed a question posed to him about how his own kids' future influences his thinking on climate policy.

The shadow minister for climate change and energy, Ted O’Brien, was asked the question by Sky News Australia’s Tom Connell during an interview about the latest UN report on climate change.

“And by the time 2050 comes they are going to be in their early 30s and late 30s. Will Australia be a rich country or a poor country? Will we be a strong country or a weak country? will we be captive to foreign interests other than our own or will we have fierce sovereignty? According to Mr O'Brien, one of the key takeaways of the report was emphasis on technology, including both carbon capture and storage as well as nuclear, as ways to mitigate climate change.

The shadow minister for climate change and energy said the coalition would consider three factors when designing their future emissions policies: the current status of emissions, what the policies are, and the economic situation.
