Energy Minister Chris Bowen is receiving urgent briefings as he seeks to limit the fallout on critical energy transition projects from the collapse of contractor Clough.

Federal Energy Minister Chris Bowen is seeking urgent briefings from his department as the government seeks to limit the fallout from the collapse of engineering contractor Clough, amid a threat to almost $10 billion of projects critical to Australia’s energy transition.

“The government is working quickly and constructively with state and territory energy ministers to address national market reforms critical to security and reliability of the energy market, including the National Energy Transformation Partnership and progress on a mechanism to incentivise dispatchable capacity,” she said.

The federal government’s Snowy Hydro, the owner of Snowy 2.0, said it was working with the joint venture to ensure construction on the hydropower project progressed smoothly. He said Elecnor had also confirmed its desire to take over the staff working for the joint venture with Clough. “I guess it’s sad that after 100 odd years of being in business that the company collapses into administration, but that often seems to be the case for hard money civil contractors,” Mr Clough said.Roberts two decades ago, and have no remaining financial interests.
