Mayor Eric Marquis said despite the meticulous care and maintenance from Deveau over the years, the sculptures have succumbed to rot from within.“For the time being, they will be carefully stored, and the City of Edmundston will explore the next steps for their replacement." The sculptures depicted the indigenous Wolastoqiyik people alongside Madawaska settlers, including the Irish, English, Acadian, American and French-Canadian inhabitants who were important in the municipality's history.
