City hopeful Chief William Commanda multi-purpose bridge will open this summer

The $22.6\u002Dmillion project has faced a number of delays including supply chain issues and a shortage of construction workers.

“The City appreciates that residents are anxiously awaiting the opening of this exciting active transportation project,” said Carina Duclos, director of infrastructure projects for the city.

“We appreciate the patience from residents as staff work closely with the contracted team to ensure the Chief William Commanda Bridge meets all safety standards and is ready to accommodate residents and visitors.” At a formal dedication ceremony last year, former mayor Jim Watson was joined by Ottawa Centre MP Yasir Naqvi and a host of Indigenous leaders and elders to celebrate the naming of the former rail bridge.

Previously known as the Prince of Wales Bridge, it has been renamed for legendary Algonquin Chief Commanda.
