The City is asking motorists to avoid parking on city streets during the day to help with keeping them maintained during the snowfall

With a snow squall warning issued by Environment Canada, the City has declared a Significant Weather Event as well.

The snow squall warning covers the Sault and St. Joseph Island and warns of sudden whiteout conditions in heavy snow and local blowing snow. Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 3 cm per hour are possible. "Public Works crews are working diligently during the event, but it may take longer than normal to ensure public safety and that the roadways, sidewalks, and transit bus stops meet normal maintenance standards," a notice from the City said. "Public Works continues to monitor the weather, patrol the roadways, and deploy all available crews to address any snow and ice accumulation.

The City advises that all roads and sidewalks maintained by the City are considered to be in a "state of repair" while the Significant Weather Event notice remains in effect. The parking bylaw remains in effect with vehicles not permitted to be parked on city streets during the winter months between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m., but the weather event means drivers are also asked not to park on city streets during the day to help with maintaining the roads.
