The bike lanes are typically supposed to open on May 1, but weather conditions that delayed the sweeping of winter debris from streets forced a postponement.
In announcing the reopening on Monday, mobility coordinator Darrik Smith called on motorists, cyclists and other users to be respectful of each other. "Motorists are urged to look both ways before entering intersections, give space, and slow down near active travellers. Active travellers are reminded to wear appropriate safety gear, communicate clearly using your arm signals, be visible and be predictable."
Restrictions to on-street parking in designated bike lanes will be enforced, so residents are urged to check signage.
