Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has delayed her fall economic update, causing concerns among Conservatives who suspect she's missed her deficit target. The opposition has blocked government business with a privilege filibuster, offering a two-hour pause to allow the update, but a government source deems it irresponsible to present it less than 48 hours before the Bank of Canada's interest rate announcement.
Good Thursday morning, in today’s Politics This Morning: Randy Boissonnault faces a House committee. Jagmeet Singh addresses the AFN. Poilievre raises cash in Toronto. Would she, could she, in the House? Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland still hasn’t released her fall economic update , and Conservatives are starting to take notice. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre suspects that Freeland has blown past her deficit target this year.
Poilievre’s Conservatives are blocking government business in the House with their privilege filibuster, but offered to pause it for two hours on Monday so Freeland can present her fall update in the House. A government source, however, told The Canadian Press that it would be irresponsible for Freeland to present her statement less than 48 hours before the Bank of Canada makes one of its scheduled announcements on the key interest rate on Dec. 11. If Freeland declines Poilievre’s offer, there’s no end in sight to the privilege filibuster. If it’s going to be a fall update, Freeland is running short on time
