Demonstrators at a rally in memory of the victims of flight PS752 hold up signs on Parliament Hill on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022.

Although she agreed with demonstrators that Ottawa must do more to hold Iran accountable, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland did not provide any more details on how her government plans to do that. On Tuesday, Freeland addressed a demonstration of well over 1,000 people who marched from the lawn of the Supreme Court of Canada to the steps of Parliament Hill in protest of the Iranian regime and in memory of the 176 passengers and crew killed aboard flight PS752. The march marked the thousandth day since the civilian aircraft was shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Jan. 8, 2020, shortly after it took off.

Demonstrators were also protesting the murder of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died earlier this month after being arrested by Iran’s morality police for not following the regime’s strict rules on head coverings.
