Acting Queensland Premier Steven Miles has laid flowers near the scene of Monday’s deadly helicopter crash, remarking that the state has “seen so much tragedy lately”.
Miles said the Department of Communities had been working with the Gold Coast City Council, the Queensland Ambulance Service and the Red Cross to support the local community.“You can see there’s community recovery officers as well as staff from the Red Cross here today and available to support those affected and members of the public,” Miles said.
“I think a big focus has to be on giving support to immediate family and the first responders. We do that well, but we also have to acknowledge there are thousands of people who work on that site, and for them, it’s a family operation,” he said. In a statement released overnight, Sea World said: “We and the entire flying community are devastated by what has happened and our sincere condolences go to all those involved and especially the loved ones and family of the deceased.”“Australia is shocked by the news of the terrible and tragic helicopter incident today on the Gold Coast,” he wrote on Twitter.
