Three Chinese warships were observed entering Philippine territorial waters, prompting a military response from the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The incident occurred in the West Philippine Sea, with the vessels navigating through Mindoro Strait towards the Sulu Sea. While transit of foreign vessels is permitted, China's lack of diplomatic coordination and the unusually slow speed of the ships raised concerns. The Philippine Navy deployed ships to shadow and challenge the Chinese warships, while the Philippine Air Force sent aircraft for monitoring.
