Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin broke news of the bilateral discussions on Thursday, saying Chinese authorities had held several meetings with Australia in recent days to discuss COVID-19 “response cooperation”.“In addition, over the past days, the competent Chinese authorities held a series of bilateral meetings with the EU and Australia to have exchanges on COVID-related issues and strengthen response cooperation,” Mr Wang said.

"Officials from the Departments of Health and Aged Care and Foreign Affairs and Trade, along with Australian clinical experts, met virtually with China’s National Health Commission and China CDC on 11 January 2022," they said.
