A key ally of Vladimir Putin has accused western powers of using the war in Ukraine to “disintegrate” Russia and has issued a chilling warning about his country’s nuclear arsenal.
, Mr Medvedev said western leaders were “falling asleep with the secret thought of the collapse of our state”.
“To deprive the country of effective governance, as it was back in 1991. And, as a result, eliminate Russia from the political field. But despite recent small Ukrainian victories, Mr Medvedev warned that foreign attempts to intervene in the conflict were “extremely dangerous”. Mr Medvedev’s unsettling rant comes only days following the death of the last president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev.
