“As the leaks grow, it expands more. And now we got them running down the hallways. The mould, wetness just sucks up into it. It's all got to be replaced. And if it's not replaced, we're going to have a lot of sick people.”

The 501 Queen St. complex was built in 1975 and is home to about 100 seniors like Lund.

“Is this even on the table? If schools got their roofs fixed instantly, why didn't 501 Queen have the same respect given to these 100 residents?" Common areas will need extensive repairs from the storm, including replacement of drywall in the ceiling and walls.“These damages went through the insurance process and were assessed by an insurance adjuster. Due to delays in insurance process, the department has engaged a contractor and they will be on site as soon as possible to begin repairs,” Gass wrote.Green MLA Karla Bernard said several other publicly-owned seniors homes have been dealing with faulty roofs for years.

"I think it's a lack of prioritization. And because it's a lack of a prioritization there aren't the maintenance people there to do it and so now they've created a massive problem," Bernard said.Over 1,100 seniors live in publicly-owned housing across the province.
