Australia has failed to unearth a quality wrist spinner since the retirements of these two 👇 Ian Chappell says captains around the country are largely to blame 🤔

Chappell expressed his "sadness" that there wasn't a leg-spinner to take Lyon's spot, saying a wrist spinner remains "crucial" to success in Australia and around the world."There's a lot of places where I think a wrist spinner would do well, but there's just not much around at the moment," he told Wide World of Sports."It's been very disappointing.

When asked why Australia had struggled to produce any quality wrist spinners, Chappell said captaincy was partly to blame. "In my opinion, the stupidity in some captaincy is they want to save boundaries, but they're quite happy to give up singles. What is better, giving up a couple of boundaries in an over or six easy singles?

While frontline wrist spinners are few and far between for Australia in the Test arena, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne both provide part-time wrist spin options for Pat Cummins. Chappell is in favour of seeing Marnus Labuschagne being given more opportunities with the ball in Tests
