Sky News host James Morrow says he was “shocked” to learn Treasurer Jim Chalmers has decided that his mission is “to do nothing less than re-make capitalism” to make it serve what he calls values.
“Writing in The Monthly magazine, Chalmers said, ‘it’s not just our economic institutions that need renewing and restructuring, but the way our markets allocate and arrange capital as well’,” Mr Morrow said.
“Which sounds quite a lot like state-directed capitalism to me, something which means favouring big businesses that toe the line politically and tightening the opportunities for ordinary Australians to build wealth for themselves.”
