FOREST FIRE IN CENTENNIAL LAKE AREA: OPP warn of potential evacuations
“It didn’t look like a regular bonfire,” said Satori. “We grabbed some extinguishers, but when we got there, the fire was too big.”
It was 2:38 p.m. on Sunday when Sartori’s wife first noticed the fire. By 2:51 p.m., it was larger and a few minutes later, the island appeared to be engulfed, he said.Shortly before 3 p.m, Sartori and Coates headed to Snider’s Tent and Trailer Park on the south end of the lake. Seeing children playing on the shoreline, they asked them to get their parents.
As of Monday morning, Holzhauer, who remained at the tent and trailer park, said she could not see any sign of fire. The air was hazy and there was a burnt smell in the air, but she had no trouble breathing.Article content Both Sartori and Holzhauer said firefighting planes were attacking the fire late Sunday evening, but there were no more planes on Monday morning.
