GOVERNOR Gwendolyn Garcia is hoping to meet Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma to discuss and unite efforts regarding the missing pulpit panels of the Patrocinio de Maria Santissima Church in Boljoon. The panels, currently housed at the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP), have not yet been returned.Garcia announced this following the ongoing delay in the return of the panels, which were initially promised to be returned by the NMP, led by its director Jeremy Barnes.
The NMP had previously committed to returning the panels to their original location. With this, Garcia said she plans to file a case against the NMP to expedite the return of the church's lost property.'I'm going to have this studied very carefully but prior to that just so everything is laid down kay lain ning through channels, lain-lain ang estorya. We will call for that meeting with the Archdiocese. I hope Archbishop Palma will be available. I'd like to hear it directly from him,' said Garcia. The governor had earlier requested that Palma grant a Special Power of Attorney (SPA) to allow her to pursue legal action in court, as the Archbishop holds the legal authority to file the case.'More than a religious icon that is also a part of our heritage and General Welfare Section 16 states that I am supposed to protect our cultural heritage,' dugang niya. The pulpit panels went missing back in 1980, sparking various theories that they were either stolen or sold without the permission of the Archdiocese of Cebu
