Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has reduced the membership of the Oplan Likay sa Landslide task force from 36 to seven key departments to improve efficiency and address coordination issues. The task force, originally established in 2022, faced challenges due to its large size and lack of meetings. The restructured task force will include representatives from City Hall departments, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau 7, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Garcia aims to expedite construction applications in mountain barangays while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and sustainability.
CEBU City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has reduced the membership of a task force tasked to prevent landslides from 36 to seven key departments to improve efficiency and address coordination issues. Garcia said in a press conference at the City Hall on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, that the original composition of Oplan Likay sa Landslide, established in 2022 during former mayor Michael Rama’s administration, failed to function due to its large size. “The task force did not even meet once,” Garcia said.
The seven City Hall departments and offices that now comprise the task force are the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Environmental and Natural Resources Office, City Planning and Development Office, Cebu City Mining Regulatory Board, Department of Engineering and Public Works, Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor, and the Office of the Building Official.
