Commonwealth Bank’s head of institutional banking and markets said the new hires follow four new managing directors who joined to focus on commodities, carbon and trade finance in November.
Commonwealth Bank has made two changes in the senior ranks within its institutional banking and markets group, a day after the bank loDeborah Leehrsen, an executive general manager, has joined CBA to lead the Australian bank’s global client solutions arm, which encompasses capital markets financing for CBA’s corporate and institutional clients.
Ms Reid will focus on managing risk in CBA’s credit portfolio, and oversee the bank’s securitisation and asset-based financing businesses, among others, Andrew Hinchliff, the group executive of CBA’s institutional banking and markets told“It is a think-tank type business,” Mr Hinchliff said of CBA’s capital structuring unit.“There is a variety of different themes that interfaces with our bankers, and it utilises our balance sheet.
Martyn Whitehead joined from Standard Chartered to lead CBA’s Australia and New Zealand commodities business. Joe Arena came from HSBC to cover trade finance, ex-Macquarie Capital banker Yasmina Elshafei was appointed to oversee the bank’s carbon markets business and former ASX executive Bradley Campbell was hired to handle commodities trading.The recent hires point to CBA’s newly created commodities, trade and carbon business, which sits in institutional banking and markets.
“These are critical drivers of what is going to matter to institutional Australia,” Mr Hinchliff said.While green shoots of opportunity, a cloud of uncertainty hovers over the capital markets.
