While the ultimate cause could not be confirmed, a spokesperson for the Fire Marshal's Office, in an Oct. 6 email, told SaltWire Network that there was a “probable” cause of “improperly discarded smoking material.”The Tyne Valley Fire Department received the call for the fire around 9 a.m. and – alongside the Lennox Island Fire Department – were on scene for about four hours.
One man was killed. Four residents were displaced; as of Oct. 4, the Department of Social Development and Housing had found temporary accommodations for them and was looking for a more long-term solution. It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years. Our SaltWire team is always watching out for the place we call home.
