CUPE 4600 said union members voted “overwhelmingly” against the university’s contract offer at a special membership meeting.
The contract instructors also want the same intellectual property rights as permanent instructors, while the teaching assistants are seeking
The university will remain open during the strike and all non-CUPE 4600 faculty and staff are required to work as usual, said Carleton, which “I ask that we respect CUPE 4600’s right to strike and I implore all parties to remain calm and respectful of each other,” said Carleton president Benoit-Antoine Bacon in a statement. “Let us not say or do things in frustration or anger that we will regret later. We must remain hopeful that there is a relatively rapid path out of the situation we find ourselves in.”
Carleton said it has also tabled salary increases for teaching assistants, including a three per cent increase retroactive to last Sept. 1; an increase of 2.5 per cent on Sept. 1, 2023, and an increase of 2.5 per cent on Sept. 1, 2024.Article content
