Sidney Crosby & Drake Batherson NS Showdown #hockey #halifax #sports #penguins #ottawaSYDNEY, N.S. — Cape Breton West Islanders goaltender Jake Poirier of Cheticamp will participate in the annual Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League Cup in Boisbriand, Que., this week.

The showcase tournament brings the top 15-year-old players from Quebec and the Atlantic provinces together, forming six teams. The players will have an opportunity to perform in front of QMJHL scouts.Poirier will be on Team Dobson for the event. Team Dobson will play Thursday at 3:45 p.m. against Team Briere, Friday at 6:45 p.m. against Team Lecavalier and Saturday at 1 p.m. against Team Marchand. The remainder of the schedule will be determined after Saturday games.

In 2023-24, Poirier had a 6-15-0-0 record along with a 3.64 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage. The QMJHL Entry Draft will take place June 7-8 in Moncton. Sydney native Gavin Sudds of the Halifax McDonald’s was also listed on Team Dobson’s roster, but he’ll miss the event due to an injury.
