Cape Breton Regional Hospital emergency department nurses are dealing with extreme staff shortages and believe it's only a matter of time before someone dies in the waiting room waiting to be seen, said their chosen spokesperson Dr. Margaret Fraser, an emergency physician who works with them.
“The opportunities at CBU for a medical school … I think it’s a good situation for everyone,” Houston said during a media teleconference last fall. The Department of Advanced Education said Monday it is open to all possible solutions, although no decision has been made about an additional medical school at this time.
On Monday, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation said it is currently working to raise $10 million to support Cape Breton’s new cancer centre by purchasing vital equipment, funding patient programs and supporting research and innovation through the Cancer Care Here at Home campaign. “We are in communication with Nova Scotia Health and the provincial government and are hopeful for a positive response on this matter,” said a statement from the foundation.
Nova Scotia Health said along with physician partners, it conducted a feasibility study of adding a PET scanner to support cancer care in Cape Breton in the future. Given the substantial complexities around adding a PET scanner , the review highlighted a number of areas that require further exploration, Nova Scotia Health said in a statement.
