Anna MacNeil of the Cape Breton Lynx turns aside a shot on goal during Maritime Major Female Hockey League action at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre earlier this season. MacNeil and the Lynx will host the Northern Subway Selects of Pictou County in Game 3 of their Nova Scotia semifinal series on Friday. JEREMY FRASER/CAPE BRETON POST - Jeremy FraserSYDNEY, N.S.

The Lynx and Selects opened their best-of-five semifinal series last weekend with both teams earning wins. Cape Breton took Game 1 on the back of a three-goal performance by rookie Skylar MacLean and 23 saves from MacNeil on Saturday in Pictou. Sunday, Cape Breton suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the Selects in overtime, tying the series 1-1.

“The Selects are our biggest opponent and who we feel is our hardest challenge, so it would be very nice to knock them out of the playoffs, for sure.” The Lynx haven’t had a problem winning games in the comfort of the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre this season. The team had a 7-3-1 record at the venue. Cape Breton and the Selects last played in Membertou on Jan. 8 with the teams tying 1-1.
