Chris Tanev can still be a useful player for the Canucks, but you shouldn’t base your plan on him given how prone he is to injury

As we said from the top, Tanev’s season was marred by injury. It was also marred by defensive regression. When he did play, he posted the worst shot-attempts-against of his career. Hughes is a dynamic skater and strong puck-possession player, one who defines the idea that the best way to play defence is to not have to play it at all. If the Canucks were to match Tanev and Hughes, that surely would play to Tanev’s benefit.
