For 13 years the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks have been without a permanent practice facility, and GM Patrik Allvin says they’re still looking.

Not having a permanent space away from Rogers Arena isn’t ideal, Allvin admitted. Since the Canucks ended their permanent arrangement in Burnaby at Scotia Barn, formerly known as Burnaby 8 Rinks, in 2010, the Canucks made arrangements with first the University of B.C. and in recent years backBut every time they got UBC or Burnaby, the team has to bring everything they need. It would be easier to simply have a space that houses all of their necessary equipment.

With most players then living in East Vancouver, Burnaby and even New Westminster, the Canucks saw the then-Burnaby 8 Rinks as the ideal site. “I would think the city of Vancouver would benefit to have a second sheet of ice, for sure. There’s lot of good youth hockey players here. So absolutely, if the Canucks can help, yeah,” Allvin said.

Griffiths credited the team’s athletic trainer Larry Ashley with guiding the fitting out of the new facilities. The developer at the Plaza of Nations said the Canucks walked away, but wouldn’t get into details. The Canucks have always declined to comment.
